I love halloween and all the scary trims and treats. I decorate with carved pumpkins on my porch. We don’t get many trick-or-treaters on my dead-end road. Not like when we lived in a community in Florida. One year I made myself a Black-widow spider costume and sat in a lawn chair near the door. I had eight limbs: two fake dangling between my arm and leg on each side. The kids were so scared they refused to come and get the candy from the bowl on my lap. I wish i’d gotten a few pictures.
Anyway. It was a fine example of the weird twists my mind takes. Like in my Rhodes End Series.

The best part about Easter is the flowers. Lilies, Daffodils, Tulips, Hyacinth and Lilacs give color to the season. I also have a dogwood tree.

One of the legends associated with Easter is the dogwood tree. According to legend the dogwood was the tree the Romans used in Palestine to make crosses which were used in their crucifixions. The myth claims the dogwood riled the Oak in size and strength. When Jesus was ordered to be crucified, the dogwood felt bad that it was used to crucify the Son of God. On the cross that dark afternoon Jesus was touched by the sorrow which the dogwood showed. He promised that the dogwood tree would never again have to suffer such a fate. Therefore the dogwood became the twisted short tree it is today instead of a stately oak-like creation.

The four petals include two shorter and two longer. The center resembles a crown of thorns in the middle and there are nail prints on the petals.

Like all myths, there is no evidence that the Romans used dogwood trees for their this purposes. The dogwood is not even common to the Palestine region.

I’m Barbara Edwards and a native New Englander. I’m a graduate of the University of Hartford with a Master’s degree in Public Administration. I write poetry for myself and novels when I need to tell a longer tale. I’m fascinated by the past so naturally turned to writing historical romance. She bit her lip. Something about the elaborately figured faceplate niggled at her memory. She’d have to research it on-line. The dial or gnomon that would indicate the time was missing. She didn’t need to touch the surface to know it had been part of some hideous ritual.
Rainie swallowed her warning. He obviously didn’t feel the dark vibrations oozing from the surface.

I have a contract by Barbara Edwards

I have a contract.

Whohoo! With a big smile I’m doing the naked chicken dance. All of you with an imagination, close your eyes.

This story is a side-trip for me. It’s for Christmas and it took me two years to get it ready for the publisher.

I have to add that the editors at the Wild Rose Press are so nice. I write full-length books but many friends publish shorter stories and claim that it keeps their names in front of the readers to do them often.

Well, I can tell you writing a short story is no easy chore. It’s a whole different skill set. And once I started, I hung on like a pit bull until I finished. The editor (s) yes more than one, liked the idea and asked for rewrites. Oops missed the deadline. So I tried again. More rewrites, only this time it was what they wanted.

The proposed title is “Journey of the Magi”, a sweetheart rosette. That’s another departure since I write paranormal romance and historical romance that is dark and sexy.

All this time I’m working on the third in my Rhodes End paranormal romance series. I finished the rough draft today so I am celebrating with this post. The working title is “Ancient Curse” with the return of a cursed villian.
